Sports/Superstitions

April 28, 2010

Sports and superstition. Not really two words you would expect to go together, right? Well, tell that to the tennis players. And then tell that to the tennis players’ fans. I’ve read about Kim Clijsters and Roger Federer confessing to have a really strict routine from what they eat, to where they stay during tournaments, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they choose the specific bed and bed sheets, too. If they had been getting good results, they’d be very careful not to disrupt what they’re “doing right” for the moment. Just ask Andre Agassi. From his autobiography Open, he confessed that since he won the French Open in 1999 not wearing underwear (seriously!), he never wore one while playing again (well, this one can be a bit dubious).

So I was watching Federer’s 2nd round match against Ernests Gulbis at the Rome Masters. The Fed was losing, so I decided to turn off the live streaming and live scores before my chin acne spreads because of stress. When I checked again after a few minutes, he was still fighting and the game was leveled. When he finally lost, I kinda blamed myself for taking another peek at the scores. See what I mean?
