During the recent Hit for Haiti Part II (part I was an impromptu exhibition spearheaded by Roger Federer before the Australian Open), two legends of the game - who else but old rivals Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi - in a possibly huge judgement error from both sides, did this:
Well, I can safely say Andre lost a lot of fans because of this. It was an inappropriate and very unrelevant joke, notwithstanding the fact that “everybody knows it by now” [that Pete’s a bad tipper (from Agassi’s biography). Not that it made me side with Sampras, who was just “a bit” more restricted (maybe because he can’t talk as spontaneously as Andre); he served a ball to Agassi’s head for crying out loud! And Andre wasn’t even in the receiving end. Not cool, dude. Just stingy. The grudge between these two would fill a Titan luggage. Makes me appreciate the Federer-Nadal rivalry a whole lot more.
Andre publicly apologized, while Pete is just bummed out.
