Something the character Miranda Bailey said in the season 6 premiere of Grey’s Anatomy that stuck with me:
“[] is not my daughter… [] was not my son. I need to save my feelings and emotions for my son.”
We do feel that way sometimes. That caring for people who have become part of us as we go through life can feel so tasking and overwhelming. That we can only feel so much and so we should keep it only for those who expect it from us - family.

But family is a word that can extend way beyond its intended meaning. In the end, we’re all a big family. So let us help each other out any way we can. It is expected of us. Let us carry the pain together.
