What’s in the Stars Today?

March 2, 2009

I had this urge to check for the Daily Horoscope; I don’t know why exactly because I hardly ever do that. But here is what I got:

Today you may find a perfect balance between your career needs and personal needs. This should bring about an inner peace that you rarely get a chance to enjoy. Professional decisions are on target. You have a super-sensitive awareness of the moods and needs of others, making this an excellent time to run seminars or work with groups. Take some time away at the noon break and if the weather is nice, get outside to walk. If the weather is messy, climb stairs or walk around inside the building for a way to focus your energies. There is a lot of enthusiasm for whatever you want to accomplish today. You and your family members may be talking about some travel this summer. Planning now will make a trip this summer successful.

Career stuff, really? Work? Blech. Ok, I think I’m sounding like a dissatisfied corporate slave now, so Yes! to perfect balance. I surmise that means less work, more play. Nah, that’s cheating. But a vacation would be good. And I’ve never really thought about walking around the building or climbing the stairs as a way to focus my energies, but I think it does make sense. Might do that later. Or else I might start to read online tips for a job interview.

By the way, I went back to the horoscope site and it turned out that was my March 1 prediction. Heh, time zone.

Dollhouse Episode 3: Stage Fright

March 1, 2009

I’ve been holding off my posts about Dollhouse because the Whedon fans, and TV critics alike, seem to be hating it. Again, I say too much expectations. I saw the first three episodes and although I am not yet involved with the show or the character of Echo (Eliza Dushku), the third episode may have paved the way for me. It’s actually a lot better than most of the other shows out there (at least the popular ones I got to watch and enjoyed at first and now are all turning meh). I’m sure going to stick it out as long as Whedon and Dushku (and Fox) are still showing it off.

IF Magazine review of episode 3 (didn’t like it).

Zap2it Review (liked it).

Stagefright1

I enjoyed this episode wherein Echo was hired as a backup singer (and unofficial bodyguard) to a Beyonce-like pop superstar. Boyd, Echo’s handler, gave a most interesting description about  some celebrities -  shallow, vapid, narcissistic. Harsh, but not entirely untrue. Or as jealous noncelebrities like me would like to think. Bleh.

The episode was written by Joss’ brother Jed Whedon and Jed’s fiancee Maurissa Tancharoen. The same company who wrote Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog with Joss. No surprise, then, that Stage Fright’s set is a concert stage. I must say Eliza has a good voice. Well, I’m no expert but she has a good tone. Makes any Buffy fan wonder how Faith would have turned out if she was part of Once More, With Feeling. I wonder what Echo’s next assignments would be. That’s the beauty, and probably the risk, of this concept - one episode can deal with an Active being imprinted with sales training and the next she (or he) can be a highly skilled assassin. You’ll never know where these poor people will end up to. Sadly, that’s exactly what many fans fear about the future of this show.
