I’ve been waiting for the book I ordered online about a week ago, eyeing the shipping boxes that arrive at the office, but I guess U.S. Postal Service shipment will take a little more than 1 week to arrive here.
The thing is, I still officially have four books that I really, really want to finish before November ends - Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell (Susanna Clarke), Possession (A.S. Byatt), The Hours (Michael Cunningham), and Kafka on the Shore (Haruki Murakami).
That’s just my most wanted list, but I still have a few more books in the shelf that I haven’t finished or even scanned. I got a little crazy over buying used books from Ebay, hence the pile. It’s just that there’s been too many distractions, not the least of which is keeping at least three blogs alive. But I’m going back to reading. At least I hope I can do that soon enough.
Remember the FRIENDS episode The One With All the Thanksgivings (also known as The One with the Thanksgiving Flashbacks)? Now I just saw this picture and I can’t help but remember how fun that episode was and how cute the scene between Chandler and Monica was, with the Freudian slip (the unintended declaration of “I love you” from Chandler) and all. And don’t get me started with the “turkey dance,” although the idea was pretty much just stolen from Joey. Monica couldn’t have hoped for better Thanksgiving gifts than what Chandler had said, albeit unplanned.
The episode also showed us the pre-nose job Rachel and fat Monica, which are always a source of good laughs. It also revealed that Chandler lost one of his toes because he called Monica fat during his college years and that Phoebe’s Thanksgiving memories are from her past life as a nurse in World War I. I can never forget how apalled and grossed out I was when I first saw that scene when Phoebe’s arm fell off and blood squirted from the wound. Her classic nonchalant reaction to even something as shocking as that more than made up for the grisly image. Oh, I miss those people. It was such a light, fun show. Lately I’ve been immersing myself to highly emotionally charged and psychologically demanding shows and movies and it’s just a breather to go back to FRIENDS when I want to lighten up a little.
I recently read about some products that are supposedly used for colon cleansing. Because everything we eat ends up in our bowel as toxins, and this causes various diseases besides being overweight and a constant feeling of sluggishness, detoxifying the organs of our body is very important.
The problem is, the foods that are (supposedly) to be avoided are some of the things I cannot live without - ramen and other instant noodles, cookies and other junk foods, too much rice, coffee and sodas.
As I am writing this post, I chanced upon some photos online from someone who had undergone a colon cleanse program. He apparently took pictures of the things he passed on since he started his detoxification program. If you’re in any way curious, you can Google “colon cleansing” and that will lead you right to those rather disturbing (and you can say disgusting pictures). Excuse me, I need to throw up now.
Applied for a credit card lately? I’ve been hearing lots of different kinds of promos with credit card applications. I’ve been receiving lots of text messages from agents (I wonder where they get the numbers; could it be random?). Normally, I just ignore them. Lately, though, I’ve been hearing about free P3,000 worth of Adidas items, free phones, or domestic round-trip tickets. All with waived annual fees. Not bad, huh? Before, you’re lucky to get promotional pens when you apply for these stuff. If only I can do that cutting of credit cards thing as soon as I receive them, I’ll apply for everything, get the free stuff, then cancel the accounts right before they start charging for annual fees.
Especially during long weekends and holidays, I always prefer to be cooped up inside the house, hoping to finish some unread books or watch DVDs from day to night to dawn. I finished all 9 seasons of The X-Files that way and just recently 6 seasons of Buffy (one last season to go). It’s so much better if I have lots of food stocked in the ref but then lately I’m finding buying grocery supplies to be a really costly endeavor.
I’ve just finished downloading BBC’s Bleak House (starring Gillian Anderson) so that’ll be my next “project.” A friend also recommended How I Met your Mother so I’m going to look for that one, too. All that’s missing is a nice, comfortable sofa for my apartment. Something like tv lifts may be quite a stretch but that’ll be cool, too. Can’t wait for the weekend.
My eyes hurt. From being in front of a computer for long hours. From watching DVDs on those times that I manage to peel myself away from the computer monitor. From reading books while lying down on those times I get tired of doing the previous two. I need one of those Wayfarer sunglasses to shield my eyes from the computer’s radiation. Yeah, I do that, at least while inside the house.
On a more figurative note, I’m watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer on DVD and Buffy’s and Spike’s scenes on season 6 of the show are just-poke-me-in-the-eyes icky. Don’t get me wrong, I love Spike. Next to Anya, he’s the character who never fails to crack me up. It’s just that their relationship was so, sorry I don’t have any other word, screwed up. As everybody else in that season, except for Tara. It’s like the Dark Ages in Sunnydale. I do understand it all from a storytelling perspective but it doesn’t make the turn of events less distasteful; anybody who’s familiar with the show will know what I’m talking about. I won’t take the time to introduce the characters I mentioned here. I’ll probably do some lists of my favorite episodes and characters over there at datedthings.com one of these days when I finish the whole series.
I’ll be installing a new widget in my sidebar - a widget for bloggers that would enable to promote over 12,000 printer and office products through Amazon’s marketplace while earning 60% of the commission.
The Web site provides Office Supplies Cross Reference information. With bloggers nowadays promoting several products online through links, the widget is designed specifically to increase conversions on product-focused blogs and Web sites. The service can be used by anybody with a Web site or blog although it is geared specifically to those who write about Printer Supplies or provides Printer Supplies Cross Reference. Obviously, my blog doesn’t belong to the latter category but I’ll see how it goes.
I actually need a few of those computer supplies. My printer broke down almost a year ago and I guess it will be more practical now to buy a new one. It’s not as if it’s easy to be sneaky and print documents at the office; I actually was almost caught printing bank documents once because the printer chose to malfunction right at the time I was printing non-work-related stuff. Plus, we don’t have colored ink at the office and that’s necessary at times. Anyway, I guess I just have to check the computer stores for that one of these days.
