I heard the movie will open in Manila theaters next week.
For the benefit of those who will swarm the cinemas, here are a few tips from several media sources:
“Twilight” will probably be a huge disappointment to those expecting a horror film, a lot of good special effects, a kinky, sexual vampire picture or any combination of the above. More time during this movie is spent talking about going to the prom than drinking human blood. The climactic battle takes place in a ballet studio.
Advisory: This movie contains some violence and sensuality. This material also attracts packs of girls with extremely high-pitched voices, who will scream every time their favorite character comes onscreen. Bring earplugs, or sit at least six rows away from anyone female between the ages of 12 and 15. - Peter Hartlaub, San Francisco Chronicle.
Stewart and Pattinson lack chemistry. Her subtle acting does not serve her well in this overheated setting. As Bella, she seems to have two expressions: blank and slightly less blank.
Pattinson’s native English accent comes through at inopportune moments.
Meyer is said to have been involved in the production of Twilight, but her novel was substantially more absorbing than the unintentionally funny and quickly forgettable film. - Claudia Puig, USA Today
On screen, Twilight is repetitive and a tad sodden, too prosaic to really soar. But Hardwicke stirs this teen pulp to a pleasing simmer. - Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly
Other reviews:
LA Times: The critics weigh in.
Better yet, go to rottentomatoes.
The problem with novels-turned-movies is that the comparison is always there. One cannot help compare the book with the movie…and that’s where the disappointment comes in.
AS for me, I just try to appreciate the book as the book and the movie as the movie….maybe that’s the reason why I loved the Harry Potter movies while most Harry Potter book fans hated it.
Just one thing, I don’t think they can personify (or act out) the intensity of the love between Edward and Bella. Iba talaga pag nabasa mo sya.
I don’t even wanna watch the pirated DVD now! haha!

i really have no high expectations for Twilight so i guess i’ll find the movie diverting. i’ve read all 4 Twilight books. it’s nowhere as good as the HP series, although — i think with a tighter plot and a more assiduous author — it could have been more. i expect a lot of squealing girls at the theaters though
