Nobody else in tennis history has ever made it past 10 Grand Slam semifinals in a row. Well, this is Roger’s 18th. He may still be sick, a step slower, rusty, and all, but he’s fighting on and will now face either Andy Roddick or Novak Djokovic on Super Saturday.
He beat Gilles Muller 7-6 (5), 6-4, 7-6 (5) at the U.S. Open earlier today.
On the way to the Meralco Theater last Tuesday to watch the preview (dress & technical rehearsal) of West Side Story Manila, starring Christian Bautista, we passed by C5 road and we’re baffled by students crossing the highways. I was looking for pedestrian overpass but there was none in sight, so I guess those kids shouldn’t really be walking along those roads, let alone cross the expressway. The things people do. Look, I’m not in a position to judge those who probably prefer the shorter way home (it might be saving them time and money), but if it’s not safe (and not allowed), I believe the parents should be the first to watch for their children’s well-being. Anyway, the stretch of C5 is now a bit less dark than it used to be, with all the commercial real estate developments in progress. It’s also a great alternative over the traffic-congested EDSA, especially during rush hour. As for the musical that we traveled for, you can find my review at my other blog.
I didn’t expect to read that Roger Federer had to go through a five-set thriller to dispatch 23rd-seeded Igor Andreev of Russia 6-7 (5), 7-6 (5), 6-3, 3-6, 6-3. But he did and the important thing is that he pulled through. He will face qualifier Giles Muller in the quarterfinals. That’s his 31st consecutive win in U.S. Open matches.
Earlier today, I was watching his 3rd round match against Stepanek in my computer, listening intently to every word the commentators are saying. They’re prety much redundant, saying that calling him world no. 2 needs some getting used to, that he needs to win this thing, etc., over and over until the match ended. It’s a good thing it was a fine display of form from Federer and that was using the one of the best headphones I ever brought. I’m just not sure if I can say the same for his last match against Andreev. I may not even bother to watch that one.
I was reading updates for the fifth season of Grey’s Anatomy over there at the official blog and apparently, it will be a season of major lovefest for the main cast members. When I think about it, when hasn’t it been about romance in Grey’s? Anyway, maybe Meredith and Derek will finally tie the knot this time. They’ve got nowhere else to go anyway. Well, according to Ellen Pompeo, Vegas might be where the two lovebirds will end up. I believe I’ve read her joking about Meredith bringing Christina along and then leaving her bestfriend to play slots while she gets hitched. But, of course, that’s BS. The actress is apprehensive if Meredith will even be willing to wear a wedding dress. Maybe their Seattle Grace schedule wouldn’t permit them to do anything as silly as go to Vegas and wed. If they’re in for gambling, though, they should just try playing Monkey Slots online. Not fond of monkeys? Well, there are Fruit Machines and also Pokies to choose from. Just like any other soap opera, these characters never get it easy when it comes to matters of the heart, anyway. It’s like nobody’s too scared to take a gamble when it comes to love. Well, a lot of people in real life can be like that, with a little less drama and a little less exchange of partners, perhaps.
I’m not going to prattle about the dangers of technology or how computers now seem to rule our lives (well, I’m in front of one for most of my waking hours, everyday). But for all my attempts at being tech savvy and beyond my relative comfort in making (some) computer programs work without much background knowledge, nobody is really excused of occasional slips and I, particularly, have a predilection towards being forgetful. For instance, I was preparing a report yesterday at work, one that I’ve worked on for about 6 hours. When I was about to send the report to a colleague, I realized that I edited the Excel file that was directly attached to my mail and didn’t save the final output to another folder. I was looking at the x mark at the top right side of the window before I clicked it, so losing that data pretty much felt like watching some precious items drain down kitchen sinks. I tried to search my Temporary Internet Files folder but it was nowhere to be found. The moral of this story? Pay attention. It saves time.
Flushing Meadows: Roger Federer continues his title defence. He cruised past the Czech Republic’s Radek Stepanek 6-3 6-3 6-2 in the 3rd round, avenging his loss to Radek last May in Rome.
Just saying.
