Wimbledon: Sister Act + Federer-Nadal III

July 5, 2008

This is it! What tennis pundits have been salivating about for quite some time now. After the dramatic/historic/fantastic five-set Wimbledon final last year, which the King of Grass, Roger Federer (I just wrote it down in case people need reminding. Hello, Bjorn Borg!) won, this year, at the grandest stage in tennis, is particularly scintillating for tennis fans. Will it be Nadal’s year? I hope not. After the French Open’s trouncing of Federer just a few weeks ago, I’m still in a bit of a traumatic spell when it comes to this rivalry. But I’m keeping the Fedtard faith. If he wins this one, I’ll be all for Nadal … in 2010! I’ll probably glued in front of the computer monitor Sunday night; my pending blog assignments will possibly be written in paper first, using my bic pens.

In the women’s side, however, the Williams sisters, both former champions, will be battling it out in tomorrow’s final. It’s a match up that is both potentially dreadfully boring or particularly interesting. Had I been a better fan of these two who best exemplify the era of “big-babe tennis,” I’ll be eagerly anticipating for this inevitable scenario ever since the top seeds were booted out of the tournament. This won’t be the first time the sisters will meet at a Grand Slam final. Venus won the first one while Serena won the last five. Hey, Venus, get your Rosewater Dish and show Serena who’s the big sis and whose turf those green grounds really are.

My Armortec

July 4, 2008

In two weeks time, our company will have its 4th badminton tournament. Like in the last 2 years, I entered women’s doubles and mixed doubles. We’ve been waiting for this event from the very same day of last year’s tournament. You can say that’s how much we are (OK, I am!) addicted to badminton. I try to be regular in playing, once a week in the very least, and despite disappointments and occasional hiccups, I am still very much into badminton after almost three years of learning the essentials and trying to improve each and every time (well except when I’m downtrodden or just being stubborn). You’d think three years is long enough time to become a “master.” The thing is, as in any sport, in requires a certain level of dedication and a lot of perseverance to become the sort of player you want yourself to be. But the truth is, whenever you feel that you have improved, you’ll realize that there are still plenty of things that you can work on.  Especially when you always go against better players, you’ll always have that hunger; that need to somehow get to their level. I can keep on babbling about the intricacies of the game and how it can sometimes (with emphasis on sometimes) be a measure of a person’s character and disposition, but for now I’m just so enjoying my time in the courts that all I can share is my love for my new Yonex racquet, Armortec 250. My decision to buy myself a Yonex after sticking with RSL was inspired by Ven’s AT150, which I repeatedly borrowed and tested. I chose AT250, though, because I liked the color besides the fact that the specifications are almost similar.

AT250-1  AT250-2 It’s still at the low end of the Armortec series, but I couldn’t care less. Whether it aids in giving us a win or not, I love this Yonex! They say the racquet only contributes to 20% of your play; that’s true. Nevertheless,I’ll take the psychological edge anytime. Here’s hoping we’ll have a good tournament in all.

What to Watch

July 3, 2008

Hey we’ve already reserved some seats online for the opening night of Dark Knight (upcoming Batman movie) on July 17. Want to take a peek at the (supposed) first 5 minutes of the film? You can watch it here unless you don’t do it fast enough and the big folks have already taken it down.

As for the X-Files movie, a trailer for TV has surfaced this week. Holy moly, is that AD Skinner I hear by the end of the clip? The show ended with his fate unknown. If I’m right, a lot of "philes" are gonna be happy! La dee dee daa daa!

Merry Month of July

July 1, 2008

It’s July! I had to go back to my calendar to confirm, but it’s July! We’re on the second half of 2008 and I can hardly believe it. Time passes so quickly when you’re not counting. I don’t know if it’s a good thing or not.

Anyway, I’m so excited for this month. Have so many gigs in the calendar - Wimbledon finals, albeit in my PC only, possibly looking at online scores because my Internet provider can’t sustain online streaming speeds (July 6), badminton tourney at the office (July 12), Lifehouse concert at Araneta (July 26), Cinderella at the CCP (July 29), and most especially the release of The X-Files movie I Want to Believe (July 23)!

Ok, time to prepare for work now. With all that in store, I need to work my butt off in the coming days (weeks even).

Rubber Stamp Champ

Rubber Stamp Champ is a Web site that offers a wide variety of, you guessed it, rubber stamps! I remember when I was in grade school, my friends and I used to collect notebooks without grids so we can “stamp” them with different fun and cute designs we can find from the stores. Different ink colors help, too. I used to keep a rubber stamp or two in my school bag then. I didn’t realize there’s still some use of such things now, especially at work, until one day while idly skimming through a project update memo, I noticed the custom logo at the bottom of the page. So the site offers custom rubber stamps, clothing stamps, electronic stamps, embossers, inks, stamp pads, and basically everything you need for such purposes. The site is easy to navigate, with the links to all products at the left side of the page. Contact information and relevant details, like free shipping, for example, can also easily be accounted for. My favorite product is the Home Stamp Kit , which comes with a program CD with demonstration video. It’s perfect for those who love to make cards, scrap books, and for hobbyist of all kinds. It’s what I call rubber stamps for fun.
