Playing Games

May 6, 2008

I wonder if some people do have more luck inside themselves than others. Some people I know tend to win more in raffles and other minor such draws compared with the rest of us. I don’t think I have much of that; mine seems to be limited to badminton tournament raffles, wherein I won 2 oversized shirts and one water bottle over the course of two years. It’s a good thing our company doesn’t really offer "I’ll-be-so-terribly-envious-if-I-don’t-win-that" prizes in their annual giveaways. There’s this Lindsay Lohan film, awfully cheesy but cute nonetheless, wherein her character appears to be the luckiest girl in the world; there’s this F.R.I.E.N.D.S. episode wherein the gang bought lottery tickets only to lose them and have an unknown neighbor win their $10,000 dollars; and there’s a Nicholas Cage and Bridget Fonda film wherein the two of them not only fell in love but won big in the lottery as well. Now that’s fantasy. But how fun would that be?

Now I’m only dreaming here, especially after reading onyxx’s latest post on TheSignpost. I don’t even know how to place bets because I always have clouded judgments when it comes to odds and stuff. Someday soon I might need to get inside a real casino just to know what it looks like. BUt do you know that the Internet offers an alternative for gamers? I am in no way promoting gambling. I found it quite interesting on this website, an online casino no less, how they listed some questions to test yourself if you are a compulsive gambler. They even have guidelines to prevent underage children from participating and guidelines to control their client’s spending from spiraling out of control. Well, it’s sort of like the warning on cigarette packs "Cigarette smoking is dangerous to your health." or the "Drink moderately" in bottles of spirits. It all depends on the player. Here’s one instance wherein I won’t suggest that you work hard and play hard.

I Want to Believe

May 4, 2008

That’s the title of the new X-Files movie and I’m joining the fans eagerly waiting for every bit of information to drop on this intensely guarded story coming out in theaters in July. There’s a new interview of David Duchony wherein he addressed the relationship between Mulder and Scully and how both actors didn’t want to dwell on the romatic side of their story for a long time.

The fan site X-FilesNews.com stated that the salaries of both Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny are a meager $250,000, when both were reportedly paid $2mil each for the first film. That says a lot of the actors’ desire for this installment to push through. Rabid fans, and the show still got a lot, are lamenting the fact and are vowing to watch the movie five times each to ensure the film’s status as a potential surprise summer hit. I may not be able to that, but I’m posting a link to a photo that would surely entice every past X-Files "shipper"  who have forgotten about this dynamic duo.

Brooke, Bye Bye

May 1, 2008

I felt that Brooke White should have been eliminated before Carly Smithson so her leaving the show today isn’t all that surprising. She wasn’t the best performer, she made the distinction of being the first contestant to stop and restart a song, she was always too nervous and too emotional, but up until the end she’s my favorite. There’s a genuineness about her that I like, which maybe doesn’t make her cut out for the big stage.

I think I lost my interest in avidly watching this season’s show during the Andrew Lloyd Webber week. I anticipated I would love that theme, being a musical theater fan, but that exactly is what ruined it for me. Don’t get me wrong, those kids managed to give decent (very pop) versions of ALW songs. I didn’t like it. The master himself said this about Brooke "I don’t think that girl has any idea of what she is singing about." The same goes for much of everyone else as well.

Anyway, enough griping for the day. That was over last week anyway. This week was all about Neil Diamond but I wasn’t able to watch last night, save for Brooke’s supposedly redeeming second song on YouTube. We’ll see if the final 2 will be able to sway me.
