Chronic Headaches

February 12, 2008

I’ve been having migraines on and off these past few days and it’s becoming hard to stare at the computer screen for long periods. Although it hasn’t come to a debilitating degree, I really could do better without it.

Searching the Web for some tips and to educate myself a bit on what can help/worsen headaches, I came across this article from The New York Times blog, which describes how living with chronic headaches feels like constantly going down the rabbit hole.

It’s far from schadenfreude but it made me stop complaining about my pain, knowing how many other people suffer from worse conditions. Imagine, they have a migraine blog for that. If anything, reading through this particular story reaffirms my belief that sometimes, the best way to release pain, bodily or otherwise, is to write about it.

Oh, the pain! I truly, truly emphatize, Zarine. My tried and tested treatment is to drink lots of fluid to make me feel so full that I’d vomit (sorry to gross you out, but this is the most important step; I think it kinda relieves the intracranial pressure, not sure though), then take a paracetamol or two plus coffee (this aggravates migraine in others), hide in my hole, and sleep it out. If you can help it, avoid glaring light. If you need to go outside or work on a PC, wear a pair of shades.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the tips, TPS! The vomiting thing actually sounds good. Di ko lang magawa talaga. I do take paracetamol and drink coffee (although some say coffee actually triggers headache). And right now as I type, I’m wearing a HUGE pair of shades. :)
