Twist and Shout

January 17, 2008

One major drawback of not talking a lot, I find, is that it makes you more prone to stammering. Could be just me. But while listening to myself talk one day,  I decided that I need to do some exercises on diction and enunciation. And volume, too.

I found this short but informative piece on voice techniques. It comes with a tool using tongue twisters. Below are some samples. Have a blast!

  • The seething sea ceaseth and thus the seething sea sufficeth us.

  • Betty Botter bought a bit of butter. "But," she said, "this butter's bitter. If I put it in my batter, it will make my batter bitter. But a bit of better butter will make my batter better." So Betty Botter bought a bit of better butter, and it made her batter better.
  • Three gray geese in the green grass grazing: Gray were the geese and green was the grazing.
  • Moses supposes his toeses are roses, but Moses supposes erroneously. For Moses he knowses his toeses aren't roses, as Moses supposes his toeses to be.
  • The sixth sick sheik's sixth sheep's sick.
  • She sells seashells by the seashore, etc.,etc.
  • Amidst the mists and coldest frosts, with barest wrists and stoutest boasts, he thrust his fist against the posts, and still insists he sees the ghosts.
  • Theophilus Thistle, the thistle-sifter, sifted a sieve of unsifted thistles, where is the sieve of unsifted thistles Theophilus Thistle, the thistle sifter, sifted?
  • Truly Rural. Preshrunk shirt. Sixty-six sick chicks.
