Over the Rainbow

May 7, 2007

when all the clouds darken up the skyway
there’s a rainbow highway to be found
leading from your window pane
to a place behind the sun
just a step behind the rain

somewhere over the rainbow
way up high
there’s a land that i heard of
once in a lullaby

someday i’ll wish upon a star
and wake up where the clouds are far behind me
where troubles melt like lemon drops
away above the chimney tops
that’s where you’ll find me

somewhere over the rainbow
where birds fly
birds fly over the rainbow
why then oh why cant i

if happy little bluebirds fly
beyond the rainbow
why, oh, why cant i

How many ways can you sing one song? I’ve been collecting versions of Over the Rainbow (original: Judy Garland, Wizard of Oz). Here are some samples.

Jane Monheit

Aselin Debison (What a Wonderful World medley)

Tori Amos

Eva Cassidy

Israel Kamakawiwo’ole (What a Wonderful World medley)
